Honiton
This lively market town is famed for its lace and pottery; those interested in crafts and antiques should definitely pay a visit during their time in East Devon!
The town is steeped in history; the town was an important staging post on the Exeter to London route, and its scenic setting has not changed much since Robinson Crusoe author Daniel Defoe described the view from Honiton Hill as “the most beautiful landscape in the world”.
For those wanting to learn more about the town’s history, pay a visit to the charming Allhallows Museum, which has among its exhibits a comprehensive collection of Honiton lace. Art aficionados can visit the award-winning Thelma Hulbert Gallery, which features local art and national exhibitions as well as workshops and events.
Nature lovers can enjoy many of the area’s local beauty spots including the Iron Age Hembury Fort and Blackbury Camp; in late spring, both are carpeted with bluebells. Honiton is also just a few minutes from the Jurassic Coast and its unique geology.
