One of East Devon’s most distinctive and ancient traditions, dating back to the 13th century when Honiton was granted its Royal Charter. On Hot Pennies Day, the town crier parades through the streets before heated pennies, and in modern times other coins, are thrown from a glove from the town hall balcony to the crowds gathered below.
A quirky, joyful piece of living history that you won’t find anywhere else in the world.
