As Devon’s capital city, Exeter is renowned for its historic buildings, beautiful open spaces and fantastic high street, perfect for a day out blending sightseeing, shopping and enjoying some great food.

The jewel in the city’s crown is its cathedral; dating back 900 years, it’s one of England’s most beautiful Medieval cathedrals and one of the finest examples of decorated Gothic architecture in the UK. It stands in a beautiful green, perfect for  Dotted across the city are other remnants of Exeter’s Medieval and Roman past, including the city wall, the remains of Exe Bridge and the gatehouse of Rougemont Castle.

The city’s historic Quayside is a must; it’s popular with locals and visitors alike for its characterful cobbles and architecture, picturesque views and lively restaurants and pubs. It’s also a great place to get active, with paths for cycling and running; or you could get out on the water in a canoe and get a unique view.

The city centre is one of the best places in Devon for shopping; there’s a wide range of national and boutique retailers offering huge choice in Exeter’s unique high street, shopping quarters and Princesshay and Guildhall Shopping Centres. If you need a break from retail therapy, you’ll find plenty of fantastic places to eat and refuel for the rest of the day.
