Sidmouth International Jazz & Blues Festival: 26-29 May


Four world-class acts will headline this year’s Sidmouth International Jazz and Blues Festival.

Running from 26-29 May, the festival will also feature numerous free events around the town.

Award-winning American singer and saxophonist Curtis Stigers opens the festival on 26 May. Expect to hear songs from his latest album and hit songs from his back catalogue, such as, ‘I Wonder Why’ and ‘You’re All That Matters To Me’.

British Acid Jazz giants, The Brand-New Heavies follow on 27 May performing its unique blend of jazz, funk, and soul. Responsible for some of the UK’s biggest R&B and soul tracks, the group has lit up the UK music scene for well over 20 years.

Expect tracks such as ‘Never Stop, Don’t Let It Go To Your Head’ and ‘Dreamer Dream On’ plus many more.

The Brand New Heavies

Blues heavyweight Chicago-based Mud Morganfield performs on 28 May. If you love your Blues then this is an evening not to be missed. Mud is the son of the legendary Blues guitarist Muddy Waters who was brought up surrounded by many of the finest musicians.

The festival closes on 29 May with the legendary multi-award-winning British jazz saxophonist Courtney Pine. He’ll perform his show ‘The House of Legends’, an exhilarating mix of merengue, ska, jazz fusion, mentor, and calypso music.

You have the chance to hear the swinging music from the Parisian cafes and nightclubs of the 1930s and 1940s courtesy of Benoit Viellefon and his Hot Club. This unique ensemble will perform popular songs played by artists like Django Reinhardt, Stéphane Grappelli, Louis Armstrong, and Sidney Bechet on 29 May at 3pm.

In addition, you can find fantastic free live music in cafes, bars, and restaurants throughout Sidmouth during the festival. Hear the very best in live jazz and blues music performed by established and emerging music talent.
