Marine House at Beer has worked closely with Anita Klein for almost 20 years. Our delight in her work is shared by many collectors worldwide of both her original paintings and her lithographs, linocuts and etchings all of which are represented in this show of over 30 works.
Many of Anita’s compositions represent small moments in her life, often focused on her family with the latest generation the grandchildren now being represented.
Anita Klein’s art is witty charismatic warm and poignant. The well known art critic Richard Noyce comments, “Her work celebrates fleeting moments of humour and joy that enrich her life.” They are happy works celebrating the magic of the moment.
Anita cites the classical painters of the early Italian renaissance as one of her main influences, and in particular Piero della Francesca and Fra Angelico. The clarity of their work ensures they have remained impressive throughout the centuries. The similarities with her work are summed up by Anita: “I want my pictures to radiate calm and harmony. They are rigorously designed although they can seem very simple because everything is in the right place”. To achieve that sense of rightness does not come easily, but is the result of her traditional training at the Chelsea and Slade Schools of Art in London, and beyond that many years of hard personal work, travelling and engagement with printmaking and painting, including her past presidency of the Royal Society of Painter Printmakers’, of which she is a Fellow.
