Event Information

By popular demand, we welcome back renowned Watercolour artist, Rachel Toll. Rachel will be hosting three masterclasses this year, each around a different subject.

Inspired by the birds of the estuary, this workshop will guide you through the graceful art of capturing movement, light, and life in watercolour. From your initial sketch to layering washes and experimenting with brush techniques, Rachel will help you bring the freedom and elegance of birds in flight to your paper.

In Rachel’s workshops she will take you step by step through the painting, and help correct mishaps as well as learning when to stop. Watercolour isn’t easy but it is a wonderful medium to use.

Beginners welcome!

Rachel Toll is a self-taught watercolour artist living and working in Mid Devon. She played an exceptionally special part in the process of realising Michael’s vision for the interiors at Lympstone Manor. Michael wanted to capture the essence and beauty of the landscape in the interiors of Lympstone Manor. Each of the 21 bedrooms are named after birds of the Estuary and each room takes inspiration from its namesake into the colours and textures of the room.

Rachel captured the beauty of the surrounding landscape and brought to life the birds that inhabit this special place, with each room adorned with a unique watercolour of its namesake and the grand staircase elaborately decorated with floor to ceiling watercolour wallpaper.

Rachel has been shortlisted for the wildlife artist of the year several times, as well as having exhibited with the SouthWest Academy of Fine Arts, The Royal Institute of Painters in watercolour and the Society of Women Artists.
